Lexus RC F review – brilliantly different from the establishment

The RC F feels unlike its European rivals, but not always better

Refreshingly different, beautifully controllable engine, well-balanced chassis
Too heavy, only at its best in the right driving mode, engine not as exciting at its top end as you might hope

MPG and running costs

We have been running a Lexus RC F in our long-term collection, Fast Fleet, for a few months now. Unsurprisingly, as it hasn’t even breached the 5000-mile mark yet, it hasn’t accrued any big bills. However, Lexus’s official combined MPG figure of 26.2 is proving to be a tad optimistic; we’ve currently averaged around 22.4mpg. Not a huge difference, and only slightly less than our long term Audi RS5 that’s averaging 25.9mpg – way off Audi’s claimed 32.5mpg.

With the RC F being so comfortable going sideways – once it’s in its correct driving mode, diff and traction control settings, that is – you might want to budget for the rear tyres to be replaced frequently. The 275/35 R19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres that are standard fitment on the back of the RC F cost around £250 each, fitted.
