Mazda's updated RX-8 rotary sports coupe for Frankfurt isn't all it seems

There’s a host of reports doing the rounds online about Mazda launching a revised RX-8 at September’s Frankfurt motor show.

And while Mazda is indeed taking a fettled version of its rotary-engined coupe to the show, it’s not anything to get too worked up about – it’s simply the RX-8 R3 us Brits got last year (as well as Japan and the US) finally making its way onto European markets.

That means the usual 228bhp 1.3-litre Wankel engine mated to the more luxurious interior and updated exterior (LED lights, more muscular bodykit, gunmetal alloys) the R3 model brought us.

It hits the German market priced at 38,180 euros – the equivalent of £33,000 at current rates. That makes our £24,478 in the UK a right bargain. Rejoice by seeing the updated (but not really) RX-8 at Frankfurt in September. It’s a motor show will have full coverage of.
