Morgan has revealed the Aero GT a aerodynamically honed version of the Morgan Aero 8.

British sports car manufacturer Morgan has teased the new Morgan Aero GT in a series of images and a short video clip. No price has been announced for this more extreme variant of the Morgan Aero 8, which will be revealed in full at the 2018 Geneva motor show.

All 8 examples due to be built have already been sold to existing Morgan customers, who’ll receive individually specified cars that will round-off production of Aero 8-based models at the Pickersleigh Road factory.

The images are close-ups of the Aero GT’s bespoke body, which has been influenced by Morgan’s GT3 programme, offering greater downforce and less drag than the standard Aero 8. The front wings are now louvered and reprofiled with air outlets behind wheels, while a new diffuser sits at the rear to improve aerodynamic performance. The short video clip shows a Morgan craftsman welding body panels for the new Aero GT.

Power will come from the familiar BMW sourced, naturally-aspirated 4.8-litre V8 from the Aero 8. It will send 367bhp to the rear wheels via six-speed manual gearbox. Placed upfront in the lightweight aluminium chassis, the engine fires the Morgan Aero GT from 0-62mph in 4.5sec and onto a 170mph top speed. We’re told that ths short production series marks the last time the N62 V8 will feature in a Morgan, begging the question of what comes next for the brand’s flagship performance models. We’d expect to see something smaller and turbocharged.

The GT was conceived back in 2015 during development of the latest version of the Aero 8’s, but never green-lit and withheld until now. Speaking about the forthcoming Aero GT, Steve Morris, Morgan managing director said, “One of our greatest strengths as a brand is our ability to be responsive and create a hand-built car which is truly bespoke to each customer. I am a proud owner of an Aero 8 myself; it has been a stalwart of the brand and offers an exceptional driving experience, that only gets better in Aero GT guise.”
