Italdesign is celebrating its 50th birthday with the announcement of the Italdesign Zerouno convertible, which will be revealed at the 2018 Geneva motor show. Last year the coupe model debuted at the event with an undisclosed price, although rumour has it customers paid upwards of £1.3 million, so expect the convertible to be similar, if not more.

Five coupes were produced and subsequently sold in the face of strong demand, which has encouraged Italdesign to proceed with the model shown in this teaser image.

Like the coupe, its body panels are made from carbonfibre that are secured to a modular chassis constructed from aluminum and carbonfibre. Also carried over from the coupe is the 5.2-litre V10 –  taken from an Audi R8 V10 Plus – rated at 602bhp and 413lb ft of torque. Whether it matches the coupe’s top speed of 205mph and 0-62mph time of 3.2sec remains to be seen. Assuming the convertible uses the same braking hardware as the coupe, carbon ceramic brakes – 8 piston at the front and 6 at the rear – will feature too.

The design language looks unchanged from the coupe with many design elements replicated. The louvered arches, fixed rear-wing and aggressive front splitter all reappear. However, it’s difficult to make out both smaller details and the interior, with many areas of the image blacked-out.

The convertible version comes as the second model produced under the Italian design house’s Automobili Speciali brand, which will deliver more ‘special cars’ in the future.
