Brabus E-class Coupe

Mercedes tuner Brabus gets its hands on the new E-class Coupe; 456bhp, 196mph

Mercedes’ new E-class Coupe isn’t on sale in the UK yet, but legendary Merc tuner Brabus has already seen fit to give it a good going over to make the CLK-replacement as perky as possible.

The end product is this, the Brabus E500. Don’t be fooled by the number on the end, as it packs a 6.1-litre V8 punch, with power hiked from 383bhp to a much healthier 456bhp, while torque rises from 391lb ft to 454lb ft.

As a result, 0-62mph arrives in 4.7sec while top speed is a fairly stonking 196mph. Not bad for a car that looks almost every inch the stock E-class – changes are fairly subtle, with bigger 20in custom wheels and beefier bumpers (including the now near-essential daytime LEDs at the front) the key tweaks. Brabus is keen to stress its cars are very much to customer specification, though, so you can probably ditch the Q-car appeal and make the Coupe as extravagant as your bank balance.

The engine tweakery will set you back 29,000 euros (about £25K), so all-in a Brabus E500 should set you back about £75,000. Not bad for something with real supercar speed to it.

Extra on top of that cost, though, are suspension tweaks (height-adjustable coil-over springs) and uprated front brakes (six-piston aluminium calipers and 360mm vented, cross-drilled discs), boxes that you may well wish to tick if you’re gunning for 911 Turbos.

If you’re a bit more restrained with your executive car purchases and pick a more sensible E-class Coupe, though, then fear not, as Brabus has tuning packs for the more efficient engines, including the likely hot cake of the range, the E250 CDI BlueEfficiency diesel.
