Eccentric Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker will celebrate the end of C8 Aileron production by producing three special edition models with bespoke bodywork, interior trim and an exterior livery. With C8 Aileron LM85 branding, the models take inspiration from Spyker’s racing heritage, harking back to the brand’s successes in endurance racing.

Exterior changes focus on new hand-finished aluminium body panels complete with aeronautically-inspired riveting. The additions add an extra bit of aggression to the already extrovert design language of the C8. The Aileron’s distinctive aluminium splitter and skirts remain, as do Spyker’s heavy use of a propeller motif, but it’s now hidden under the three distinctive liveries.

Mechanically, the Aileron features a supercharged Audi-sourced 4.2-litre V8 engine mounted aft of the driver. Power is rated at 518bhp and 442lb ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox, reaching 62mph in just 3.7sec according to Spyker.

The trademark Spyker interior from the standard Aileron features and that's no bad thing as this side of a Pagani, there are fewer more intricate and luxurious cabins around. The highlight is the wonderful exposed shifter mechanism, running down an aluminium rod between the front seats and into the engine bay behind.

Spyker will now ramp up production of the Aileron’s successor, called the Preliator. Fitted with a new Koenigsegg-built 5-litre V8 engine paired to a six-speed manual gearbox, the Preliator’s more aggressive overtones have left us very interested indeed to see if the infamous Dutch supercar maker will be able to appeal to a wider audience with its all-new model.
